Our Little Monk

The other day I went into the kitchen to grab something and left Jack sitting on the couch drinking some juice. I came back into the room a few seconds later and he was gone. I assumed he was behind our entertainment center and said, "Jack?!" All of a sudden the blanket on the couch moved and I saw a little face poking out from beneath it and a little foot. He's got quite a sense of humor already!

Lately Jack plays a game where he takes his hat and puts it on your head. Usually he will shout, "Ta-Dah!" or "See?!" Last week however he put his hat on Maggie. The first time he did this he kept laughing and the dog sat there unfazed. She was a good sport because he continued to do this throughout the afternoon. See?!

"It's Yuuuuuuuuuge Buffalo, Yuuuuuuugah."

One of our local car dealerships barrages us with commercials about every ten minutes. The owner, Billy Fuccillo, and his wing man, Tom Park, have their signature phrase that makes me wince every time. Anyone from Buffalo and many people from across New York State could probably identify the pair. My favorite Fuccillo ads are the ones where Billy's photo stretches across the Buffalo Transit buses. He's lying down with his head in his hand. It's annoying--especially since he's not exactly "GQ" material. Anyway, after about the third commercial during the Today Show a few days ago, Jack said, "It's Yuuuuuge," and started laughing. You can imagine how thrilled I was. Periodically over the last few days he has repeated the phrase, "It's yuuuuge." So, when I told him Uncle Kevin came home I thought it only fitting to say, "It's yuuuuuuge."

As far as I know, my brother returned home to Arkansas at 3:30 AM this morning! My sister-in-law told me he called last night to report he was having a beer in Maine! It's so great to know he is back on our home soil. It's even greater knowing we get to see them next weekend. I'm proud of the job he has done and proud of my sister-in-law for managing to keep it all together while he's been away. I don't think I could do it!

New Puppy

Not for us! Julie and Chris just got a chocolate lab. Her name is Charlotte but they call her Charlie. We went over to see her the other day and as you can see, she's too cute. Jack had fun with her and to my surprise, was pretty gentle (he's used to chasing after our dog). It was cute to see them running around in the yard together.

Move Over Tiger...

I decided after tracking Tiger's latest victory that it's never too young to expose our son to golf! Haha. Thanks in large part to Matt, we were able to get Dave a set of irons for Father's Day. He was so excited because it was a complete surprise. My dad gave him a golf bag and he also got golf shoes from Toni and Dave for his birthday. The guy is set for the fairways! Not surprisingly, Jack wanted a piece of the action.

On the inside jacket of his bestselling book, Big Russ & Me, Tim Russert wrote, "I hope this book will encourage readers to think about the things they learned from their father. Whatever we achieve and whoever we are, we stand on their shoulders.”

David's grandfather - Abe. This is such a beautiful shot. He looks so content and that's how I always remember him. I don't think I ever heard anything negative come out of his mouth!

One of my favorite shots of my Grandpa Bill and us. He's using his hands in this picture to explain something and I can't help but notice the resemblance between his big hands and Jack's big hands. I also love the duct tape in the corner.



Unfortunately I don't have a picture of Dave's paternal grandfather to include but he is also in our thoughts. Happy Father's Day everyone!

Grandma Toni Visits

Jack had a fantastic visit with his grandma. She spoils him just a little bit (he's acquired some new duds, a slide and a booster seat in the past few days). Here's a couple shots taken during Toni's visit. Don't they look heavy in discussion in the first one?!

Our First Baby Gift...

...for our little GIRL!!! David and I found out on Wednesday that we will be having a little girl. It was a complete surprise since the last sonographer seemed to indicate it looked like a boy. Anyway, when I was expecting Jack my grandfather gave me this gift for my shower. We didn't know what we were having that time and he suspected a girl. I saved the outfit and now it's kind of special that even though he's not here anymore, he is the one to give us our first gift. I bet somewhere he's looking down on us and having a good chuckle. By the way, I would have posted ultrasound pics but to be honest, I can't even identify them(quality isn't the greatest).

Longing

Don't worry--we watch him like a hawk (you know me). But, it was a little heartbreaking to see him stare through the gate in 90 degree weather at our neighbor's pool. It reminds me of the cartoon character in the desert that envisions the sparkling lake--only to find out it's a mirage.

Childhood

Big Dig

Last Friday we had our yard dug up and watched as a team installed drains in our yard. Jack was pretty captivated by both the machinery and the process. The last pic is him watching the dig...sooo much more exciting than Elmo (well, at least that day).

Too Hot

It's hotter than Hades here in the Town of Tonawanda today. It's humid too. Yuck. Poor Jack was a sweaty puddle when I went in to get him from his nap. Thankfully his dad installed the air conditioner this evening in his room!

Movie Time

As you may or may not know, Sex and The City, the movie, was released this past weekend. It achieved record box office sales and was sold out across Manhattan. Julie and I had been looking forward to seeing this movie for some time so on Friday night we were ready. Jules bought us matching tees for the occasion (we take this very seriously). I'm happy and proud to report that we were the first two patrons at the 9:45 PM showing at the Regal Elmwood. Woohoo! It was fantastic! I think it's the female equivalent of Star Wars. By the way, there were no Manolos for these girls. Only, gasp, flip flops.

Daniels Visit Part 2 - Buffalo Zoo

When Maureen and Rodney visited, we took the kids to the zoo. I had hoped they would be a little more excited than they were (note Jack's face in the first pic). Still, they did appreciate seeing the lions, monkeys and giraffes. We also got to witness a polar bear feeding. One of the zoo attendants started chucking cupfuls of what looked like premium dog food right at the bear. We were expecting them to start whipping fish through the air but no such luck (evidently the bear is watching his waistline this week). The boys--Atticus especially--got a kick out of watching the bear eat. That was probably the highlight of the visit--oh and maybe the seagulls following us around to each exhibit. What can you expect?!
