I Bring You The Archer Family Christmas Tree

A few weeks back the Archer family packed into the honda civic (the van was being worked on) and headed out into the wilderness to cut down our tree. We didn't realize when we set off on our journey that we'd be searching in the midst of a heavy flurry. The farm was great. Kate and Steve gave us the heads up. The trees were really reasonable and the landscape was picturesque. There was the beautiful cobblestone house as you drove up the hill and a really pretty farm. I imagine inside the big farm shed there were tables and a stage and Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby were dancing around. Anyhow, it was a fun day.

Jack was eager from the start. Here he is trying to nail his mother with a snowball.

Lily, not so eager.

Jack was so excited to run, especially in the snow. More rapid than eagles he flew...

Lily reminds me of the little boy in "Christmas Story" when he yells,
"I can't put my arms down."

There's Clark. The tree farm equipped him with a saw. Thankfully no roots dangling off the tail of our car.

Lily: "Hey dad, how's it going?"
David: "Little full, lotta sap."

I adore this picture. I love how Jack is helping David here. It's the sweetest.

This place looks like Stokoe's out in Wheatland. Is it?

I greatly admire the fact that you guys went out and cut down the Archer family Christmas tree the old-fashioned way. We went and cut down our tree in the fenced-in garden department of Home Depot. Because we're traditional and like to get our hands dirty like that. Well, I suppose I should admit that I didn't actually participate in the all-important tree-choosing because I directed Rodney to drop Fiona and I off at TJ Maxx while he and the other two kids went to find the skinniest Frasier Fir available. Look, it's not that I get bored picking out Christmas trees (much), I just didn't want the baby to get cold, ok? They don't heat those garden departments, you know.

In all seriousness, I totally heart these photos. Awesome one of Dave and Jack hauling the tree, and love the one of you and the kids. Hopefully you didn't inadvertently bring home any squirrels or other woodland creatures. Soupcan Jones does not need any indoor friends.

"I hear something...it's a funny squeaky sound". Yes, lets hope there are no SoupCan friends in there!
These pictures are great! What a fun family experience. I'm glad we got to see the Archer family tree in person...it's beautiful.

Maureen, your comments always make me laugh. We (Kevin) had to go to Lowes garden dept for our tree as well. I have to say though...I am really missing a hearty NY Spruce or something. This wimpy Fraiser Fir is not cutting it.

Ahh!...It brings back so many memories. If I didn't know better, that'd be me under the tree.

The most enjoying traditions of the season are best enjoyed in the warm embrace of kith and kin. Thith tree is a thymbol of the thpirit of the Archer family Chrithmath.

These are great! I'm just now cleaning out my google reader and found this one buried in my reader box. If we had nice tree farms and pretty snow, we would probably partake in the tradition of using a real Christmas tree. Unfortunately, we burned out on having the option of buying a tree from a parking lot, or driving hours outside of DC to pick out a crappy tree.... hence the pre-lit artificial trees we snagged during after Christmas sales about 6 years ago.

I love the pics!!!!
