Lazy Day

Sometimes all a girl wants to do is put her head down and cuddle with her Minnie Mouse.

David and I both were thumb suckers (until Matt broke David's thumb accidentally but that's another story and I digress) so I guess it makes sense that Lily is too. I know that I should discourage this and that it could likely result in expensive orthodontist bills in the future. But for now, I think it is the sweetest thing.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it for now. She's still a little thing and it obviously comforts her.

That being said, did I ever tell you about my college roommate, Jill, who couldn't fall asleep without sucking her thumb? It was so gross. We'd be laying there in the dark on opposite sides of the room and I'd have to listen to these squeaking noises coming from her face. Sometimes she'd fall asleep with her thumb in her mouth and wake up with it all wrinkled, like she'd been soaking in a bath for 8 hours. She'd also suck her thumb when she was upset and I'll never forget the time her boyfriend Brian broke up with her and she was sobbing and sucking her thumb and trying to tell us what happened all at the same time and we couldn't understand a damn word that was coming out of her mouth. "And then, suck suck, he...gulp...said, suck suck. So ridiculous. I wanted to coat it in Red Hot myself.

No worries, though, because Lily is just doing what babies do. But if she is nervously sucking her thumb while filling out college apps, it will be time for an intervention. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy two semesters of the kind of night music I had to endure. Love you, Jill!
