The Snowy Day

Jack loves the book, "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats. It's a sweet story about the joy of playing in the snow and the beauty of a snowy landscape. Yesterday we had our own snowy day.

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

Snow Angels

Love those pink cheeks

Poor Lily. I shouldn't admit this but unlike her brother who had a complete snow ensemble, she had neither boots nor snowpants. I found a pair of boots that Jack wore last year and put them on her. And, I improvised with a lined pair of Jack's windpants and rolled them up. It worked to keep her warm. But, she couldn't really walk in the boots. Thus, she was pretty stationary. I like how this picture shows how active Jack was and how Lily just sat and watched.

Trying to move

Commanding his sister's attention

Look at the solitary teardrop. Love it.

Time to go inside ...Someone was ready

And someone wasn't

But, hot chocolate/milk and cookies have a way of making you forget about snow

"Ahhh, this is good!"

One happy, tired, cocoa-stained, little boy

What a great story these photos tell. I, too, thinks nothing caps off a snowy afternoon better than cookies and hot chocolate. What a fun mama you are!

Oh man does that bring back good memories of heading outside in the winter, wegmans bags protecting our feet from getting wet inside our boots so we didn't have to come in a minute sooner than necessary. And then! To come inside and get that hot chocolate! Heaven!

Yea, I spent more time getting the kids dressed than we did playing outside. It was a good way to get out some energy though. I forgot how we used to put bags around our feet. :) Also, referring to "The Snowy Day" as sweet might be a little misleading. It's really a simple book (better adjective) and sometimes I wish I could publish a children's book because I don't always get it. "Goodnight Moon" anyone? Jack does request this one though all the time...maybe it's because it's so simple. It was so pretty yesterday. Today it's a wet brown mess. :(

I love these, car!!!! Looks like you guys had a blast!! I'm afraid to show these pics to Nate since we have no snow for him to play in. I can tell you're having fun with your new camera!!! Beautiful pics!!

Very clever idea with the "bags".

Looking at those those two snow angels makes me remember all the joy of winter-- without having to actually experience the cold! Times to remember.
